Adverse Climatic Phenomena and Their Impact on Road Embankments – A Case Study from the Czech Republic
Current climate change is causing more frequent extreme weather events, which negatively affect road embankments, especially through sudden heavy rainfall and increased erosion. Although annual rainfall totals in the Czech Republic have not changed significantly, rainfall is now distributed much more unevenly, with local downpours often delivering up to 75% of the monthly average in just 24 hours, which destabilizes embankment slopes.
